Methodology

The method of approach that Douglas Logging uses for all our work is based on industry best practice guidelines utilising our extensive industry experience in road construction and Harvesting operations.

Douglas Logging is committed to comply with:

Approved Code of Practise for Safety and Health in Forestry Operations.
Compliance with the National Environmental Standard for Plantation Forestry. (NESPF)
Regional council Resource Consents
Compliance with Heritage New Zealand’s Archaeological Authority process.
Safetree certification since 2019

Our business partnerships

We are currently working for five different Forestry Managers and over the years we have developed solid relationships with all of them achieving great results for both parties and good business partnerships for the future. The local knowledge and experience we have gained while harvesting for these companies in the north for the past 26+ years is immeasurable.

At Douglas Logging we feel that we are doing the best for our customers to get the best results.

Douglas logging currently has six harvesting crews operating. They consist of three two-stage hauler crews and four ground-based crews. We cover forests all over Northland. All crews are fully mechanised, and employees are highly skilled in producing large amounts of wood but keeping in mind that quality control and log value recovery are major parts of the production process.

POST HARVEST

We have two hay mulcher blowers for erosion control used for either post-harvest or earthworks. They have been very successful and an integral part of our erosion control systems.

This year alone we have spread over 580 bales.

After completing all harvested blocks to keep compliance to NES standards we provide a full post- harvest clean-up which includes:

Full water controls
All erosion controls
Removal of all debris on flood planed
Windrowing of all slash
Hay and seed coverage of all exposed soils (which is proven to be superior to hydroseeding as it is an instant cover at a better germination rate)
Land preparation for planting
